Slight Whistling Sound Coming From Near CPU - Please Help!

Hi All,

I just built my first PC and all seemed to have gone well except for one thing - a slight high pitch whistling sound. I listened around the PC and it seems to be coming from near the CPU/CPU cooler. I'm using the Cryorig H7 and I've listed my components down below.

I recorded a video of the sound. It was taken near the back chassis fan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBSprTB0gD8

Is this normal or should I take off my CPU cooler and clean/reapply thermal paste? Or is it completely something else. I've read other threads about it potentially being the motherboard or even the CPU but I'm not sure if that's the case for me. All parts are brand new so hoping to figure this out soon if I need to get a replacement for something. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Components:
I5 6500K
G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB Ram
Cryorig H7 CPU Cooler
MSI Radeon R9 390
EVGA 650WGS PSU
Samsung Evo 250GB SSD
Western Digital Blue Caviar 1TB HD
NZXT S340 Case
2 Stock fans and 2 Corsair AF120s

Solution
A lot will depend on the ambient temperature in your room. If it is already quite warm, then more case fans will help cool down the inside of your machine. Unless you are going for some extreme overclocking, all I can say is give it a try with 2 fans and monitor your temps (or live with the whining noise).

Thanks for the quick response. Any idea of where you think the coil whine might be coming from and is there a way to reduce it? I'm probably also really sensitive to sound so it's just bugging the crap out of me :)

Probably from the VRM's, and no there's really no way to reduce it that I've ever seen. I've read that disabling SpeedStep or using the High Performance power profile in Windows might help, but I don't have any personal experience with that, and it's not really the best solution, anyway.

So I found the problem! It's the Corsair AF120 fans. When running there is this high pitch sound coming from them (the little motor inside I'm guessing). Is that normal or did I get a pair of faulty fans? I've moved the pair from the back of my case to the front (moving the stock to the back) in hopes that it would help but i'm still hearing the whine.

I'd rather listen to my stock case fans than these quiet editions make this whistling sound. Is it worth trying to get a replacement to see if my fans are just bad or do they all do that? Any recommendations on other fans?

I probably don't need all 4 right now but I plan on dabbling into overclocking soon so I figured 4 would help with any increase in temperature.
