Is it normal that my router drops my download speed by half?

Hi everyone, my internet provider is giving me 20 mbps of download speed, when my pc is plugged directly on the modem it gives me all of the 20 mbps but when i plug my pc through my router my download speed drops by halp and even more even if there is no one using the internet.. i dont know what to do??

I have an Asus RT-N12D1 and its brand new, but i unplugged the whole internet setup and after i restarted it and now its working perfectly fine.
