OK I really need some help , Im thinking to purchase a brand new Mac Book Pro 15 inch, here are the specs
2.2GHz Processor
256 GB Storage
2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz

I really like the desing and every feature , but my concern here is that the specs are really low and
I have a custom build desktop with really high end parts, im not sure im buying just the brand? I have heard that apple computer last longer but im not too convince about it , windows computers last too but its obvious that you have to give it some kind of maintenance to run it smooth and have it nicebecause you spending good money for old hardware I think. what you guys think? I need more opinions please..

There is no set definition for worth, it all depends on the individual.

I love the design and ease of use. A $1,000 price difference is 91 cents/day over 3 years.
It's still $1,000, but is that a lot or a little? That can change depending on how much you use it, and how highly you value the 'advantages'.
For me personally, the accurate screen, stunning design/build quality and stable unix based OS are more than enough to justify the cost.
In addition, the service is great. I can get someone on the phone in 2-3 minutes if I have an issue. My iPhone screen was a bit iffy, at 18 months old they just gave me a new one, and the dozen or so mac's in our office, the worst problem was a failing HDD. On top of that I'll never have to pay for a...
if this is a new macbook, these specs suck.but to be sure, could you be more specific as to the specs?what model i7.ddr3 or 4 ram.what gpu?etc.this would help evaluate this machine, but im pretty sure you could do a whole lot better going with a windows machine.

here they are the specific specs
15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
256GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
Force Touch trackpad

to my mind that is pretty overpriced.consider first, what you want to do with the laptop.are you into gaming?if so how intense, keeping in mind a laptop will never be as good as a tower for gaming.are you into photo, video editing?these are things to consider when buying a pc.i can tell you that there are better laptops out there for as much or less than you would pay for the macbook.do a little research (google)before you make the plunge.cheers.

Depends on what you use it for.

If you NEED the raw power, you'll probably be left wanting more, but you have to remember, you're not comparing apples with apples (no pun intended).
Compared to windows, OSX is highly streamlined and optimised, and even seemingly pathetic specs can be an absolute joy to use.
They are also often highly spec'd in very specific areas designed to make them last a long time.
We're seeing 1440 desktop monitor pretty common now. My 2009 iMac was 1440. My current 2014 iMac is 5k. It's going to be a long long time before 4k is considered standard on PC.

As you can see from my sig, I use both, and have a pretty decent PC. For general use my 2011 MBP feels just as fast, and despite my best efforts, I STILL get the variability that comes from near infinite hardware and software.
For example: This easter weekend, flash brought my quad core beast to an absolute halt in firefox. The entire system came to a screeching halt. After a restart my usb wifi would connect to the router, but no internet. 3 restarts, no change. On the 4th restart, it works fine. Seriously, wtF!

For play I'll always use a PC, for work, you couldn't pay me to use one. They each have their place.

PS. Once you get used to using the beautiful alu and glass MBP, everything else just feels like a cheap plastic kids toy.

On top of that I'll never have to pay for a new OS, it's all free, and I'll never have to figure out which one to buy (pro/home/32/64 etc), and I'll never have to worry about every 2nd release being totally rubbish (ME, Vista 8/8.1).

wow,so you would spend an extra thousand dollars so you didnt have to think for yourself??not me.and lets get something straight about windows.winxp was a winner.win7,even better.win8 needed a lot of work but wasnt quite as bad as detractors would have you believe.windows 10,so far has proven to be a good stable os.i guess what i am saying is,i want my money to be spent getting the best value i can.to throw a thousand bucks away for convenience is like getting my groceries a 7-11.

kinda contradicting yourself there.it goes,it stops,it gets the job done just fine.but it costs twice as much???in my country hyundai aint exotic either.lol.not meaning to be confrontational here either.just good clean discussion.datsun sunny.are you by any chance from the uk?

Haha not UK, South Africa originally, Australia now, but everyone knows what a datsun sunny is.
Unless you're in Korea, Hyundai is exotic. Exotic doesn't mean special or amazing, just foreign.

The point is, we don't ALWAYS spend the absolute least amount of money to get the job done, or buy what we want. Let's face it, you can get a $100 2nd hand laptop that will do 99% of what you want. That doesn't mean you're getting ripped off if you spend $150 on a laptop.

true enough.we dont have datsun anything in canada anymore, its nissan now.we are at opposite ends of the spectrum in more ways than one.lol.even your toilets flush the other way.nice to hear your perspective.cheers.and what the hell are you still doing up?hahaha

OP, I suggest you go to a brick&mortar and actually play with a Mac, it will feel weird at first if you never used OSX. Put the touchpad to its paces, gesture it. Manipulate the desktop with your taps, 1-finger, 2-fingers, 3-fingers, pinch etc. Then maybe slide over to a Windows and attempt to do the same.

Only YOU know whether it's worth it to you.

Remember, switching platform means you will need to re-purchase your apps.
