At wits end!

Yesterday an odd thing started happening right after Facebook said I may have malware and pushed the trend micro scanner at me.

Now anytime I launch a browser the video driver crashes and gives me a blank or grey screen. It seems the computer is still running but my only option is to reboot.

I'm back online because I made a new profile in windows and here I am. However, that profile seems fubar. It seems pernicious. I was even beginning to think my video card was dying.

Has anyone else experienced this? It started for me on March 30 and now that I think about it right around midnight so it smells like a trojan with a timer.

Really hoping to avoid a wipe and rebuild. Thanks.

Some relevant stats:

Win 7 pro
ROG Striker GTX 760
Asrock z97 extreme 4
Intel I5 4670k

[Edit] - p.s. I should add that what happened was I needed to change my password and that's where this started. I used effing blasted damn etc. as my new password and that's when fb kicked me to trend micro's dl. I thought my saved (in chrome) pw might have been lost because of my running cleaners like cclean and the like which I do once in a while to keep the system clean and maybe I had clicked the wrong button that time. In retrospect, I think it's possible a virus was culling my passwords and then changing them in an attempt to hijack my logins and that's how I ended up there. Just figured that was salient for anyone looking at this and trying to help me out. Thanks.

Solution
If it`s as bad as you say Erik.

Then it looks like a complete wipe and re install of windows.

I`m sorry to say.

What ever it is Erik, it`s been pretty malicious at destroying files of your OS, looking at the screen posts.

It may be a pain, but I see no other way out of the situation.
Sorry I could not help.

But I hope you get it sorted.
You don`t have to do a complete wipe and install at all Eric.

As they say there`s more than one way to skin a cat as a saying.
Meaning there are other ways around your problem without having to wipe the drive and start again.

You ready ?

Now depending on what MS os you are using.
Anything from Vista, to windows 7, 8, 8.1

When you first power your system on.
You need to keep rapidly tapping your F8 key on your keyboard.
You should be presented with a windows boot menu.

Choose safe mode.
When windows has loaded.

Simply find back up and restore of windows.
If enabled you should have multiple restore points with a date and time stamp.
Simply choose a restore point before the face book incident and trend micro install.
Or the date it happened.

Let system restore do it`s job, may take a while.
It should restart after completion.

The system should be returned to normal before you got the trend micro trashing the system.

What the heck. This responding system is convoluted. Can you see my posts? I rebooted and tried that. No go. I don't have restore points. That profile still blacks out the video driver when I click a browser. Seems very targeted. Ran malware bytes etc and frankly it seemed to fuel it. Lock down on boots and it may be migrating.

Agreed. That was my original take. I was just hoping someone on Tom's might have heard of it. On the other hand. It looks like it is inside that profile. I could try to rebuild from here. Here being another admin profile I built that seems to be clean but who knows? I would rather track it down but truthfully I just want my zen back. Thanks for your feedback. :)

One note for anyone coming across this. I keep the operating system on one 128 gig ssd. I don't save ANYTHING else there. No games, no pics, etc. So if Windows is fubar I can just reinstall and then I do have to fix a bunch of hooks but everything else on my machine is still there. You should always keep your important things separate from the os that is always at risk of crumbling at any moment. Back up.

This needs another post. I picked a post as the answer but I probably should not have. It's the answer I may end up using because it was my take before I even posted the issue. That said, I really hope that my amazing Tom's community can come up with some answers. Unless it's just a really fubar random bug, which happens of course, this is a very good virus. Nothing is catching it. Be safe. :)

It is entirely possible that it is NOT a virus or malware. Stuff happens. Those of us in the game for a long time know that. I'm reaching out, asking you the Tom's Hardware user, do you know how this might happen? It occurs to me that a bad bit or two in critical spots like the registry could do this and particularly since it's only happening (so far) on that profile. I would appreciate your thoughts. This issue is not closed.
