It has the 6pin required for the gtx 750ti so it will handle it, unless it's already close to its end of life. Are you buying it now or are you reusing it?

no just the gpu the system has a i5 cpu not sure on the model a asus p8z68-mpro motherboard 1 tb hdd currently has a gtx 550 ti gpu just trying to squeese a bit more life out of this machine before i invest in a new sustem
Owen77, the gtx 550 ti your have uses 116 watts while the GTX 750 Ti uses 60 watts... simple math should give you the answer. You could even get something like a GTX 960 which uses 120 watts and still wouldnt have any issue with your Thermaltake 450 watts PSU.
Also your motherboard model tells me that you have a Sandy Bridge i5, a very capable CPU even today.
Yeah you can do it without a problem. 750ti is a boost over the 550ti, though not huge. if you want a bigger boost, you might look into the 960, or if you are going to invest in a new build in the near future, then just go with the 750ti.
its just for my son to do homework and gaming on so were not intrested in over clocking or anything like that we just want to extend the life of this unit and we can get a 750 gtx ti cheap brand new online
