I just bought a new PC - a custom, £1200 gaming beast - and as with anything new, you want to protect it. Therefore, I thought it would be best to get a good free anti-virus (I'm basically in poverty now) so I downloaded AVG and Avira. I ran the Avira scan and sat back. It climbed to 60.1% (60.1% of what? No idea) and stopped. I left it for a few hours. 36 hours in and it had climbed 0.4%. Then all of a sudden, disaster! The power went out for all but a split second, causing my PC to turn off as Avira was scanning Windows files.

Ever since then, after about 5 minutes, my high-performance PC's OS takes a dump and everything stops responding - even the desktop / file explorer! I have to force a restart, but that only gives me about 15 minutes after launch to do what I need to do, which is why this may seem rushed. My PC crashed (or Smiley Face of Death or whatever it is on Windows 10!) once after this happened about the third time.

I have 2 basically empty 1TB WD drives and a 250GB Samsung EVO SSD which is where my OS is situated. I have a 6700k CPU (although I don't think that's an issue, because when everything stops responding, CPU usage is at about 15%) and 2x8GB DDR4 Ripjaws V DIMMs

Solution
Might have gotten some corrupt files, the Win System File checker can often fix that - go to the Command Prompt as Admin and run the command SFC /SCANNOW
