Understanding Case Specifications (Will My GPU Fit?)

Hi there,

First, I will shamelessly admit that I am very new to computer building. I'm working on my first build right now. But on to my question:

I don't understand how case specs should be interpreted. I've purchased a Corsair Graphite Series 230T case ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139027 ), and it says that it has room for GPUs 320mm long. This sort of description seems pretty common to me: it fits GPUs ___mm long. How is that determined? Will it also depend on the size of my motherboard? Is this maximum GPU length measured at a certain part of the case?

The GPU I'd like to purchase, seen here on EVGA's website ( http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-2974-KR ), lists these specifications:
Height: 4.376in - 111.15mm
Length: 9.5in - 241.3mm
Width: Dual Slot

This is the motherboard I plan to purchase:

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Micromann

The "maximum" GPU length is measured from the back of the case until there is interference on the same plane as the PCIe slot. Some cases will also list measurements with, and without, the drive cage installed. ...meaning "long" GPUs likely will need to have the drive mounting cage removed in order to fit. Not the best of configurations, but not everyone needs a drive cage (HD / SSD mounted elsewhere).

Your 241mm length card will easily fit in the 230T. 320mm is large and will handle almost all "long" GPUs like the GTX 980 / 980 TI and AMD R9 series. You can create your build at www.pcpartpicker.com and it will show you any potential conflicts in the build toward the bottom of the page. As you can see with your proposed parts...
