What should I upgrade first?

I'm upgrading both my CPU and GPU, and I'd like someone else's opinion on what I should get first.

My currents spec are FX-8350 and R9 280x. I'm planning on getting a i7-5820k and 980TI, but here's where it gets kind of complicated in my decision.
A 980TI is more expensive, so if I bought the 980TI first I'd get that out of the way and I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore, but because I own a FX-8350 if I was to install the 980TI I wouldn't see hardly if any performance increase because of the bottleneck. On the other hand, if I was to buy the 5820k first I'd see an improvement in my games but I'd then have to worry about saving up another $1000 to get the 980TI. I also play a game called Black Ops, and it's very poorly optimized for AMD hardware (part of the reason I'm upgrading) so the new processor would make the game much more playable as it'd fix the low fps and suttering the game has.

That's the decision I'm dealing with, lol. I'd like a second opinion. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Would you go for the 980TI first or the 5820k?

Thanks for reading!

The way I see it, upgrade the CPU (motherboard and RAM) for the general system boost, then by the time you have the funds for the GPU, Pascall and Polaris should be out. Get the best from them.

I assume you realize that moving to the Intel platform would require a new motherboard as well. So get the gfx card first. You will see a performance increase from the 280X, don't kid yourself. It's only when the game hits a CPU-intensive moment that bottleneck will interfere.

Yes, I'm aware I'd have to upgrade the mobo too. All I play is CPU intensive games though, Black Ops (That game is basically a CPU -.-), Battlefield 4, Battlefield 3, etc.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

No problem.

I found it amusing, with your nVidia logo avatar that you said you have an AMD CPU and GPU. Personally, I want AMD to do well and have had AMD graphics for a while, but when (not if) I go for a premier card, it will be based off of reviews from reviewers that I trust, and not just the color of the team.

I use to own an Nvidia card, but then when I upgraded. It was cheaper to go with AMD for the price to performance ratio.
I'm mad at my decision though, I hate the AMD drivers, they always seem to break one of the games I like playing.
