**First time PC builder, 1 grand dumped into this pc, and I'm completely and utterly inept about everything I'm doing right now.**

Alright, so I'm in a bit of a predicament. I've this EVGA GeForce GTX 970 video card and it's weird, to say the least. So, what's on it "port-wise" is one 8 pin input and one 6 pin input right next to each other, I'm assuming that it's for power purposes because of where it is located (Going towards the outside of my case, away from the motherboard) and I have a PCI Express cable with two 6+2 Pin Connectors (This is where I'm confused at) What I did (Haven't hooked it up yet, I'm scared tbh...) was I used one 6+2 Pin connector with only the 6 pins to fill up the 6 hole slot, and the other one, with both things in (the 6 pin with 2 pin extension) to fill up the 8 hole slot. What I want to know is; Can I do this? Or will my pc just explode?

EDIT: I can provide pictures of what I did if required.

Solution
That is the correct way to do it, 8 + 6 is common on video cards. Seat the video card in the mb correctly and secure it in and place and seat the power cables in all the way and take a deep breathe. good luck
