My graphics card has an annoying habit of just being completely undetectable after any Windows update. Usually I can get it working again, but this time is stumping me entirely.

I've tried updating the drivers, making sure it was the primary graphics adapter in the bios, even a system restore. The fans still run and the leds are still on, but my computer just refuses to let it connect.

Here's what's in my machine:

  • Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
    G.Skill AEGIS 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
    Crucial MX100 256GB
    Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Vapor-X Video Card
EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Windows 10 64-bit (happened on Windows 8 64bit as well)

If I'm missing any important information, let me know and I'll provide it. This is getting really annoying, especially since the card's less than a year old and I don't really have the money to go around replacing it at the moment.

Thanks!

I tried DDU (in Safemode and everything!) and tried to reinstall the most recent drivers, but nothing doing. And yeah, the OS and drivers are on the SSD, the primary boot drive.

Well by jove, it worked! I jumped the cmos reset as well as I could figure out how to do (my motherboard manual was oddly nonspecific on that?), and plugged the monitor back in to see... nothing. It wouldn't even recognize the motherboard graphics card.

So I turned off again and reached in to push the magical mysterious "Legacy/UEFI BIOS" button that I never knew what it really did, only that it didn't fix anything before the reset.

So basically in the end it worked. Thanks so much for your help! This was driving me absolutely insane <3
