I'm buying a new mobo, cpu, ram, and case, and I have a few questions(first time)
1.does it wipe your hdd while replacing your MOBO?
2.Do you have to reinstall OS?
3.should I hire someone to do this for me? Would it be to risky for me to do this myself?
4.should I make a backup, and how is that done without using hardware?

Thank you for your time, please ask if u need any specifications or clarity! :)

Hey there, stinksman!

1. You will need to backup your files from the HDD somewhere off-site like an external HDD/DVDs/Cloud storage/etc. Changing the mobo and CPU is like changing the computer altogether. You will need to start from scratch.

2. You will not only need to reinstall, you will have to buy a new genuine Windows OS with a new activation code. The operating system communicates with the motherboard, so the activation code is tied to that mobo. Unless your new motherboard is identical or from the same manufacturer, you will definitely have to buy a new product key from MS. For more details on that, refer to MS Support.

3. If you are not confident about your knowledge on hardware and software, you should most...

3. If you are not confident about your knowledge on hardware and software, you should most definitely get in touch with a professional. There are local PC repair services everywhere and the guys there could definitely save you the headaches of doing this yourself.

4. Like I mentioned already, you should definitely find a way to backup your files from the HDD somewhere else and make sure you always keep at least 2 copies of your files stored in different storage devices. This is the best way to avoid any potential data loss. Once you have the new MOBO and CPU installed with the new OS on the formatted HDD, you can simply transfer the data back to the hard drive from the backup storage.

Hope I was helpful. Keep me posted if you have more questions! :)

Thanks, that clarified just about everything! Thank you sir and have a good one. But one more thing, can I burn the windows 10 iso onto a disk and reinstall it afterwords?

Hey there again, stinksman!

Unfortunately, you will need a new genuine version of the OS. Yes, you can install the Windows OS, however, you'd need to buy a new activation code/product key for it due to the fact that it's a new motherboard & CPU. You should refer to MS Support for assistance and more details about it.

Best of luck!
