computer will turn on but the monitor is blank

I turned on my computer , it's a Compaq cq5500f , the blue led light comes on like normal but nothing displays on the monitor. The beep code is 1 short and 1 long and according to other forums it may be the bios or the memory. I tried to reset the bios but it still beeps. I unplugged every thing and pressed the power button for 5secs, still beeps. I did have a power outage, the computer wasn't on, but it was plugged in. The green led light on the motherboard does light up and the fan spins. The mouse will light up but the keyboard won't work. I tried removing the dust as well. i used it 3 days ago to backup my pictures and music from my phone and had no indicator that something was wrong. It worked like normal I transferred a bunch of music back to my phone with no issue. I don't know what to do and I don't want to go out and start randomly buying parts for it and hoping it fixes it. Please help thank yoy

1 short beep & 1 long beep on HP/Compaq systems is almost always a RAM problem.

Try re-seating the RAM modules in case it's bad connectivity between the slots & the edge-connectors.

If no change, try new RAM as existing modules may have become faulty (not at all unusual as they age).
