Hello, I have a HP Compaq Presario. I know, not great but it was free and it does ok for now.
Anyway, I had to reinstall windows and as it wasn't the original hard drive that came with the computer, it didn't have all the preinstalled gumph where I could re-install from the drive. Luckily, the key label was still on the desktop so I borrowed a windows disc (remember disc) and reinstalled windows, done all the updates etc. and everything was fine.
Last week I went to record some music onto my computer but nothing happened when I put the disc in. I checked the drivers in Device Manager and there is no CD drive there! I have gone onto the HP site but that is no help and I can't find anywhere where I can get the drivers from HP. So I was able to install Windows using the disc drive but now it doesn’t work.
I had a look inside and it is all connected ok and I took a note of the model (HP DH-16AAL-DT2).
Basically, what I need are the drivers. The HP site seems to be no use so please don’t send me a link to main customer support page (unless you have a further link within that).
Do any of you have a driver you can send me or can you direct me reputable site where I can download one from. There are a lot of sites out there which claim to have them but I worried about spyware/adware etc. I’ve got a good av but it’s still not worth the risk.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back. Thanks for the responses. Device Manager just shows my hard drive and flash reader. I've downloaded driver booster 3 like you suggested and although a lot of my drivers are out of date, the CD/DVD drive is not listed. My desktop is a HP Compaq Presario and I have checked the connections. I am running Windows 10. Any other ideas?

It will probably be another week before I respond due to work commitments.

Thanks

I don't know what you mean by the full name. That is the only name on the front, side, top and back of the unit. The model number on the side is CQ5226UK.

I've tried that and it's rubbish. it just detects my computer and tells me that Windows 10 can detect drivers for me. But.....I've sorted it!

I've been looking around and apparently it is a compatibility problem with Windows 10 which makes it disapear from the device manager. A simple regedit and reboot and it reappears. In case you get this question again, the person needs to go to dos (as admin) and type reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001 and then reboot.

Thanks for looking at this for me people.
