I recently noticed my cpu was running extremely hot, I took the cpu heatsink fan apart and I literally found a carpet of dust under the fan. so I cleaned out the entire fan and the fins on the radiator and re-applied thermal paste and put everything back together. Now the computer runs really cool and never goes over 50 but the fan is really loud now. any ideas what the problem is?

Solution
Here's what I'd do
1. Uninstall stock heatsink
2. Get a hammer, flamethrower, grenade, or something destructive
3. Use whatever you chose from #2 on the stock heat sink
4. Buy an aftermarket cooler

But other than that, what kind of sound is it? Do you see it rubbing on anything when the pc is on?

Are you sure the noise is from the fan?

Lol he has a radiator so I dont think its stock unless AMD or intel really stepped up their stock cooling. Im thinking the fan is rubbing against something like said above what kind of sound is it and is it a lot louder than before?

The noise is definitely from the cpu fan, I cant really say what it sounds like its hard to compare to anything other than an annoying fan sound. Its a pretty big heatsink Its an amd one so I dont know if its stock or not but its about the size of a quadruple big mac lol. Anyways, like I said, there was a huge carpet of dust stuck in the thing It took a long time to get all the gunk out. I was thinking that somehow all the dust was putting unnatural stresses on the spin of the fan and over time it wasnt spinning in a perfect circle so the removal of all the dust somehow unbalanced the fan so its spinning imperfectly and hitting the air in such a way as to make it louder. Thats my best guess but Im just a lowly Canadian peasant with a high end computer so what do I know?

Also ive tried programs to control my fans but I cant even access them for some reason. Ive tried speed fan but the software doesnt recognize that I have any fans, so thats out of the question, everything fan wise is controlled by my computer some how. theyre all working but I have no control over them

You likely need the side draft from the stock fan to help cool your PWM and RAMs. If you go aftermarket without a side draft, point a small fan at the FETs.

If it's 'loud' as in the fan is spinning 100% try to adjust the Smart Fan control in the BIOS.

If it's 'loud' and the fan is not spinning 100%, you likely got some gunk in the fan, and that could be a problem. Most fans have a small hole (it may be under the sticky label) that allow you to put a drop of machine oil into the sleeve. That might help.

Good luck.
