Overclocking Startup issue

Hi there.

So im having a issue with my overclock at startup. I am running Intel i5 6600k, on an MSI Z170A M3, with 16GB G.Skill TridentZ DDR4, and a GeForce GTX 970. I have my CPU overclocked to 4.3GHz and when its running I'm not having any issue. My problem is during startup. My system will restart 3 or 4 times before it even gets to POST. It will power up, fans and lights will turn on then it will restart and try again, and as I said it will do this a few times before finally booting up. I'm not sure what could be causing it or how to fix it. When the system is not overclocked it starts up just fine no issue so it has to be an issue with my overclock settings.

Modified BIOS Settings are...
CPU Ratio-43 (4300MHz)
CPU Ratio Mode-Fixed
Ring Ratio-Auto
EIST - Disabled
Intel Turbo Boost - Disabled
DRAM XMP Profile - Enabled
CPU Core Voltage - 1.320
DRAM Volgtage - 1.350
(All other voltage settings on AUTO)
Intel C-State- Disabled
Long Duration Power Limit - 255
Short Duration Power Limit - 255
CPU Current Limit - 256

All other setting are at the default setting

Anybody have any ideas?
Thank you in advance for any help.

haha bro u and i are sorta in the same boat.. cept ur boat has bells and whistles.
im had a a q9300 for the past 7 years or so.

k so i think u should just do more searching and the exact hardware and see what other ppl are running.
i assume u know more than just the basic since u had a extreme cpu so im not gonna waste time on lil things.
what i did with my...

dram voltage seems high wanna try putting that in auto or match xmp voltage on the box

also at which overclock setting did it reboot fine? maybe thats where u want to go back to and tinkle from there

I set DRAM Voltage back to auto. When the system isn't overclocked at all it starts just fine. And when I use MSI's game boost setting (the predefined auto-overclocking which puts it at 4.1GHz) it starts up just fine. I based my BIOS settings off what is predefined with MSI's game boost including voltage settings (though I pushed them up a bit higher since I was pushing the clock a bit higher).

hm ok well dont take my word for it, all this is just what i would think through my experience.im not a pc tech.
i would not touch the ram settings unless ur following within manufacturers specs.
what does cpuz say about ur xmp?
typically u want to follow that and if u start touching those numbers u better write everything down cuz u will have to back track when u hit a wall.
i know this first hand cuz when i started overclocking almost all dead start ups were after ram setting changes.
that being said id just avoid ram. just change what u have to change to balance out the bus speed frequency and ram frequency

Well right now my RAM is running on the predefined XMP profile (MSI motherboard, at least the one I have, just has a option in the BIOS to turn on or off the XMP profile). I had the DRAM voltage adjusted only cause I was basing my settings off of MSI's "Game Boost" settings which adjusted up the DRAM voltage. I have since set it back to auto voltage with XMP profile but am still getting the issue on startup. I have not manually changed the Bus Freq, Ram Freq or CPU Base Clock. Only adjusted my CPU Ratio to 43 (4.3GHz) and adjusted my CPU Core Voltage to get to the current CPU speed.

are u following guides to oc this cpu?
hm yea i dont have experience in i5 6600k but i think it should be the same idea.
what is ur ram speed at? and what is the XMP setting rated for? might be better if u can take screen shots of the bios

I have read through some guides for this CPU. I just built this new computer (my old one was running a Core 2 Quad Extreme, and gosh so much has changed since then, but I had overclocked my old PC and have never run into this issue before.) My Ram is DDR4 3200. When XMP profile is active it is set to run at 3200MHz in the BIOS. When XMP is not active it runs at 2133MHz.

i assume u know more than just the basic since u had a extreme cpu so im not gonna waste time on lil things.
what i did with my non k overclock could be different than what u should be doing on a 'k' chip.
i basically touched a few things and i did that within dram frequency parameters. (2700mhz max)

bus speed from 100 to 167mhz
ram multiplier dropped to 16x
increased vcore.... i had it set to 1.35 then dropped it to 1.30 and im still dropping every 5 hrs or so while doin small tests and regular gaming to make sure im not undervolting.

now i dont know a whole lot about your 'k' chip so i cant tell u what to do. im sure u can find samples u can follow to give u an idea on what to change.
but if i had to give u something.. ill say this.. it might be possible u can increase the core multiplier and lower the bus if u can try that and see.. but if u do this i think ur gonna have to overclock ur ram.. and all this just seems like hell lol

and to be straight up.. this is much much much easier than what i had to do with the q9300. but it could very well be that i hit jackpot on the i5 6400 cuz im not finding a damn problem what soever while i did the overclock.

Yea. Im going to do some more searching around. I was hoping someone here had gone through a similar issue and found a solution. At least your setup is working good. I got the K series cause its suppose to be easier to overclock with the unlocked multiplier, but dang it. haha. Im going to toy with some more the settings in the mean time, maybe I can figure something out.

just make sure ur toying with the toys ur supposed to toy with.
or ur gonna end up making a new post on why ur computer wont boot lol.
