Hey guys, I recently found out that my Intel xeon e3 1231 v3 has been bottlenecking my Gtx 980 ti.

Could you guys find the cheapest cpu that wont bottleneck my gpu?

Or, should get a bigger heatsink for my cpu or an aio water cooling unit for my cpu and hope for the best?

Thanks so much guys :D

( also, my current pc case is horrible. I have power cables going OVER my gpu and other components. Will that effect my preformance?)

Your Xeon is still among the fastest quad cores Intel sells, before overclocking. The "K" CPUs being recommended would really only be significant upgrades if you overclocked them too, and for that you need a motherboard that's also capable of it.

Well you see, I originally had the Xeon in for comsol and cad applications.

I would like something that would be good for both simulations and gaming

Another question though, is a 4700k good for work like applications?

Speaking of "Cheapest"[,/i] here you go;

Intel i7 5820K = $398.90
Intel i7 6700K = $357.10
Intel i7 4790K = $331.99

Out of all the above processors, Intel's i7 5820K is the only 6 core/ 12 thread processors and also the best under $400 processor.

Hope this helps you, feel free to ask any further questions.
