ASUS RT-AC87U won't hold a stable connection (wired or wireless)

I have an ASUS RT-AC87U router that worked fine for about 6 months. Lately, however, the connection will constantly cut out, come back and work for about 2 minutes, cut out, come back and work for about 2 minutes, etc, forever.

When I say "cut out", I don't know exactly what's happening at the router but all of my wireless devices lose the signal and all of my wired computers claim the internet cable is being unplugged. The wired computers eventually think the cable was plugged back in and will identify, get an IP assigned, and be good again for a couple minutes until the router drops connection again.

I know it's not an issue with the computer because this is happening across all computers and devices. Also, if I plug a computer directly into the modem, bypassing the router, it works just fine.

I sent the router back to ASUS once already. I have no idea what they did (if anything) but it didn't fix anything.

The only thing I'm doing in the setting after a factor reset is:

  • Changing the login/password for the router.
Changing the router's IP to 10.10.10.10
Changing the routers IP pool to 10.10.10.100 - 10.10.10.200
    Setting the SSID/Password for Wifi

I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Anyone have any clues? I don't want to keep paying to ship it to ASUS for them to just factory reset the thing and send it back (as if I haven't already tried to factory reset the thing).

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Just to mention some steps I've tried, I flashed Merlin firmware but the problem still persisted. I've also tried various ASUS firmwares including the newest and a few prior to the newest. It also appears if I don't have the router connected to the modem, it works just fine (granted, I get no internet, obviously). So maybe traffic is part of the problem?
