Running Windows 7. Wife was transferring files from an external hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 7200.7) using a SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 adapter. The hard drive fell off the desk after which Windows apparently no longer "sees" the drive when I connect; i.e. does not appear in the Computer window nor in disk management. Upon powering on the adapter, a buzzing can be heard from the drive, which eventually stops.

I assume I will need some professional help to recover data from what I assume is a damaged drive. Any suggestions as to where to look for help and/or any insight as to likelihood of success?

Thanks all!

Unfortunately, it seems like the HDD was physically damaged after it fell from the desk. Such hardware failures shouldn't be tampered with. I'd follow @Phillip's advise and search for a professional data recovery company online. Your other option would be to check the HDD manufacturer's official website for any specific recommendations on the data recovery assistance or get in touch with their customer support.

Best of luck!
