I have a Seagate backup plus slim 2TB that i configured to suit the use of a macbook pro time machine. But now i just want the hard drive to be for storage use and not as a backup machine. Does anyone know how to restore it to its factory settings so I can use it for plain storage? thank you!!

There is no such thing as "restore to factory settings" for external or non-system hard drives.
You just need to reconfigure Time Machine on your Mac so it stops creating backups on that drive:
