=======================================================
UPDATE: Who ever is experiencing this problem check the whole thread, do all the things listed, if it still ends up not recognizing the card, you'll have to buy new one, since some mobo's are experiencing compability issues with some gpu's (even if it shoudn't in theory), at least mine does.
=======================================================

Greetings community,

First here are the specs of my computer i had:
===================================================
MB: Asus P5Q3
CPU: Q9550 Intel
GPU (Old one is not working properly, weird pixels, it won't boot to system): Sapphire HD4870
NEW GPU: Sapphire HD 6950
RAM: DDR3 4gb GeiL 1333MHz
PSU: 600W Chieftek
===================================================

Ok, since my old GPU isn't working properly and i can't boot up to system, i decided to buy second-hand GPU (HD 6950), it's in really good state, thermal paste was replaces, and was tested at the sellers computer and benchmarked, and everything worked correctly.

So i come home and i want to put it of course in my computer, but when i set up everything and connect the 2x 6 pin and start the computer, it just makes one long beep and 3 small beep sounds, which is probably that graphic card has some error or it isn't recognized or something.

What do i actually do? This card was tested and it was working on the other computer, but for some reason it won't on mine.
Also i don't have integrated graphic card in mb, just so you know.

Can you give me an advice what to do next?

Solution
Hello... Thx for extra pics... Sapphire should has a 800/free number in your area... Ask for a tech support, and give them the SKU and other #'s of the Video card and ask for the BIO's Orig version release with your card, and see if it's on that list... it should be or they could even E-mail/send ya it or refer you to different place on their site... I have woke up a few ATI's with your exact problem... and a few did not. 50/50 chance for your efforts in this B /
Typically the FANs die first on OLD video cards, or the thermal paste dries up, Or somebody OC them to pre-mature Temperature damage.

Since the PCIe2.1 seems to be the orig problem... I would suggest a GTX460 or 560 series video cards ( or better ) for the PCIe2.0 spec and...

After googling your beep code it seems that it is related either with RAM issues or GPU. I suppose that this doesn't happen with the old card installed.
When you bought the gpu did you ever see it running on another system? If not you have to test it in another system. Also you could try with no gpu on to see how the system reacts ( beeps).

It doesn't happen with old card. I saw it only running on win 8 64 bit, and i'm using win 7 64 bit.
I tried with no GPU, same beeping sounds, and also after 5 seconds, there is extra beep or two which happened earlier with card, just didn't mention it.

Switched the MB battery, and reset the cmos. Still same issue.

Hello... like mentioned before... 3 beeps is typical Ram problem...
1) try cleaning the RAM sticks with rubbing alcohol and keep reinserting them to see if you can stop the 3 beeps that way.
2) try one stick of ram
3) test the ram in another computer.
4) try different ram sticks in your MB.

I've noticed you have TWO PCIe graphics slots...
5) Try the PCIe slot nearest the CPU Blue.
6) Try the PCIe slot farthest your CPU Black.

I'm not sure it's about RAM, since it works completly fine with old gpu (just the screen is messed up and it won't boot completly, only to loading windows, and no beeps, only usual one).

I clean the RAM anyway, and tried first one, then the other (without gpu), same beep sounds.
I coudn't test different RAM, or use mine elsewhere, since i don't have where to test, i have another computer but it has ddr2 slots.

About the second pcie slot, yes, i tried that before, same beep sound.

Hello... 7) Can you read the BIO's screen with the original card? if you can write down the Bio's version and see if there is a Update for your MB, I would try that next... the Beeps could mean " No graphics card Detected" and hardware compatibility problem.
8) Get a magnifying Glass and look at your PCIe Slot for dirt/crud OR bent or mis-aligned gold connectors.
9) Try the Graphics card free in the slot, and not screwed into your case side.

7) I can, but image is terrible, i barely saw it's 0707 version, it says on the site of mb, that there are a couple of newer ones, but they are all refered to "Enhance the compatibility with certain memory." which has to do with RAM not GPU.
And honestly, even if i wanted to update it, i don't know how to do it if i can't run the system.

8) I looked it up, but i can't seem to find any problems with it, and also if one is bad, the other slot would be fine, so i also don't think this would be a problem.

9) Tried it several times before, no result, same problem.

No, i never had need to do it. I read on internet, it's updating bios with utility program, but it can damage bios if power goes off.
Is this really necessary? Like it says here:

A superuser may want to update his computer’s BIOS for a number of reasons:

support for newer processors (this comes in handy especially for custom computer builds), the BIOS is tweaked to allow processors up to a certain speed, thus if the processor is upgraded or overclocked, the BIOS may need to be flashed.

support for larger hard drives and solid state drives. Believe it or not, the BIOS is configured to only accept HDD/SSDs only up to a certain size, thus the BIOS has to be updated in order to allow the HDD/SSD to be used.

BIOS bug fixes. Since the computer left the factory, the original manufacturer may have found bugs in the BIOS and released an update for the BIOS, thus it may prove beneficial to update the BIOS so that it may run more efficiently and smoothly.

No mention of GPU or anything, what would it actually fix?
I'm not experienced really about this stuff, but i don't think it will help :S

So have you ever experienced BIOS causing the problem for GPU ?
If i actually do it now, do i just put the .rom file in the bootable usb drive, and set priority order and let bios do the thing, since i don't know if gpu will be able to support if it's something complex, it barely opens bios.

EDIT:
Ok, here is the link of the card i bought: http://www.itsvet.com/proizvod/sapphire-radeon-hd-6950-1gb-gddr5-11188-01-40g/comp_comp_vga/130/2475

It says it's 2.1 PCI-e, and i have PCI-e 2.0, It should be compatible, but sometimes it may require bios update (i read this somewhere now).
Can you explain me what to do with .ROM file and how to properly update it if i have faulty graphic card and can't boot up system.

Hello... I have experienced my BOSS asking me if I have done everything possible to solve a equipment problem... and firmware versions and chip re-flashes and Other types of data/OS loads Can solve a problem OR determine if the main/sub boards are DEAD OR NOT... "Because this machine needs to be running, or I got to tell 100 people on this line, to go home without Pay, until this machine is running again." B O

Now you may not be in this type of pressure too re-flash your ORIG GPU AND/OR Flash your 8 year OLD MB... Then fine... I have no other Solutions for you at this time...

But... if you were wanting to learn the fine ART of "Flashing devices" You have the perfect subjects for this. B )

I'm not in that kind of situation obviously, i'm just a student who doesn't have too much money to spend if something goes wrong :D
You maybe didn't read my EDIT in last post, so i'll post again:

Hello... I would love to Help you... there is a order of things first. (Dam procedures)
1) Get the original BIO's/model for your GPU... the sticker/version/product #'s is on the back of the Card.
2) locate THE MB ID paint location, we need the Version # of that Asus P5Q3 if there is one... Ok?

Hello... Can you at all see/use the "BIO's EZ flash 3 utility" in your BIO's?

otherwise we should do your card first B /... or can you borrow a really cheap card next door? B D

OR MB BLIND flash first and get new card working?

1) which card/bios is written on your card? see list and DL correct one. https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?architecture=ATI&manufacturer=Sapphire&model=HD+4870&interface=PCI-E&memType=&memSize=

2) if you got Local computer re-cycling store get a $5 pcie2.0 card to Flash BIO's with EZ Would be easy this way... hint hint hint.

I have ez flash 2 utility not 3, here is the ss of the image http://i.imgur.com/nPHSzfp.jpg?1
It's hard to see anything properly if you don't know it's place

I have Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 512 MB ddr5, so i just download the newest one by date with 512 mb right?

I can't borrow graphic card now, i could tomorrow though.

Hello... that's a good enough screen... I've seen/used worse B D. https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1012154
2) copy the MB rom file to the USB stick and see if you can highlight it to start the Flash.

You tube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQKQj_aASCQ

1) the video cards needs the correct one... Typically it is on a sticker on the back of the card or we need to read it in Windows GPU-Z APP later. you HAVE to be right on for the video card... it isn't "Updateable" it is a Firmware/hardware thing thats got to be spot on.

You might not need to... if the MB flash goes well, you can use the NEW card.
