Hey I'm building my first ever gaming pc which Id like for it to be able to multi task too, so I was wondering anyone here could give me feedback on it and offer any advice.
I think a GTX 970 is awfully weak for that budget. The water cooling is unnecessary, get a Cryorig H7. CPU could be dropped to an I5-6600K. Just get a 650W EVGA P2 PSU instead. Then get a GTX 980Ti.

What do you think of the mother board; have any suggestions on a better for around the same price?
Eh, whichever one you want really. Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, EVGA are all great. Find some you're interested in and look for reviews on them on websites like Guru3D, Tomshardware, Techpowerup.
The motherboard does not affect performance. It may affect performance by like 1FPS in general. It can affect how well you can overclock, but it won't affect performance to any reasonably distinguishable difference.

There are some I/O speed differences between Z97 and Z170, but for gaming, and comparing Z97/980ti and Z170/970.....the Z97/980ti will offer the better gaming experience by far.
