Hi,
I know there are many existing questions that concern, generally, the issue I am experiencing, but there are still some points that are not presented in said questions that I am still deeply confused about.

So, the situation:
Today, I helped build a new computer, using some recycled parts, such as: 1x 8gb RAM stick, an optical drive, and a hard drive. (Don't know if this is important or not)
After assembling the computer, it turned on, but no USB power or display. I assumed this was due to the recycled hard drive, that wasn't previously wiped, with data still on it. So, I tried a new hard drive, clean; nothing on it, and the same problem occurs. No display, or USB power.

At this point, I honestly have no idea what could be wrong. I was considering the RAM, but it appeared to work fine on a computer before, so I don't know.

I would really appreciate help with this, thanks.

Solution
The info needed should be on the RAM stick itself. Also, if you look for the QVL for your board on MSI's website, you'll see a list of guaranteed compatible RAM. This could help if you end up buying new RAM.

Sorry,

Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming
CPU: AMD FX 6350
Graphics card: GTX 750ti OC
RAM: Not sure, 1x 8gb stick (from HP Pavilion)
PSU: Corsair CX600

Could be the RAM. Certain brand, voltages, timings, ect. don't always play nice in different motherboards. A stick may work fine in one board, but not pass POST in another. What is the information on the stick itself? Have you tried moving it to the other slots?

Thanks for the reply, I will look into buying some new RAM.
(sorry, didn't see the last part) I haven't tried moving it to new slots, and I will have to look for the exact model of the pavilion of which I took the RAM from.
