Hi!

I have an r9 290 (asus) put into a 1800 dollar rig. Should I upgrade now? I also have an i7 4790k, msi z97, and 16gb ram (crucial something, cant remember)

Most of the time I play AAA titles or early acces games like ARK: Survival Evolved, and also, graphics are very important for me. I dont mind spending 2k on a new graphics card, Ive been looking into vr lately and decided to try to order the htc vive, the steam performance test told me that my system was "vr ready". But im more the guy who wants to push everything to the limit.

I kinda like the fury x but ive heard it uses some kind of water cooling and I dont know anything about that, or should I switch to nvidia and get 2 980 ti's? Do I have to switch out my psu? (bequiet l8 cm 530) what else do I have to look out for while shopping a new gpu?

Ive never had nvidia, always wanted to try it out though, I never got an nvidia because theyre so expensive. I always expect amd to suceed but it never really does, and most of the games I play are displaying "nVidia, The way its meant to be played) If nvidia has some kind of advantage over amd I dont mind using it, so should I grab an nvidia or an amd card?

Thanks :)

In all honesty if you have money to burn/budget is not an issue then 2x980ti would be able to max out pretty much anything you throw at it. Personally I'd wait a little longer for any more details on the upcoming pascal/polaris range of Gpus.
If you did go for 2x980tis youd have to upgrade your PSU-to be honest I'm surprised you're able to run your system as it is with a PSU like that >.>

As far as to whether Nvidia has an advantage its situational-Some games make use of "gameworks" which basically is a library of effects that use Nvidia's proprietary code. Problem with that is these "effects" will only play nice with certain Nvidia cards. Most of the times you can just disable them if you're using an AMD card but at other times they make prove troublesome(such as in games like Project Cars).

When the playing field is level you will often see AMD and Nvidia trading blows on their corresponding hardware.
