Just recently finished building my new PC. Was fine for a few days but when I turned it on this morning I got the error telling me that my USB device(s) were over current and it would shutdown to protect the motherboard.

I've done a lot of troubleshooting from reading of this issue already on the site but still no luck. I can't think of anything other than getting the board replaced.

I've taken it out of the case and the only things plugged in are the CPU/GPU/Power. With everything else unplugged I still get the error. The USB ports look fine and the board has two locations for USB input both look fine with no pins touching or being bent.

Any ideas?

Two main sources of short-circuits when you install inside a case:
- that metal I/O panel at the rear of the case. It has "Tabs" which often slide INside the USB connectors instead of outside, just touching the metal housings of the USB connects.

- the metal motherboard stand off's. Count the # in the case and the # of holes in the motherboard (answer is usually 8 or 9) make sure they all align. Make sure the heads of the screws you use are small so they won't overlap traces on the motherboard.

As I said above, I have tried outside of the case on a wooden table with only the gpu/cpu and power in and I still have the problem. With no USB connections.
