Before I got this PC I used to have an old iMac and once I got this PC, I wanted to transfer all my music to it. I first plugged the external hard drive into my old iMac and it worked fine. I managed to transfer all of my music over to the drive. However, once I plugged in the external hard drive into my PC, it didn't show up anywhere but device management. It doesn't show up in disk management or in "Devices and Drives". Any help would be appreciated.

Your external HDD is most probably formatted in HFS+, which is the file system associated with Mac OS X computers. Even if you get the HDD to be recognized by the PC, you most probably won't be able to access your files.
However, it should still be visible in Device Manager. I'd recommend you to 'Scan for new Hardware' and even try plugging the external drive to a different USB port on the Windows PC. Another thing you should check is the USB hub controller drivers from the computer/motherboard manufacturer's website. Make sure you manually update the driver utilities from there, Windows Updates have the tendency to install more generic drivers that are often a bit outdated.

Hi SuperSoph!
Thanks for replying so soon and I'm sorry that I dint reply earlier, I have been quite busy recently. I have tried plugging into different ports and scanning for new hardware but have had no result.I have also tried checking the USB controller drivers. My motherboard is an MSI Z97 PC MATE and when I went onto the MSI webpage, there was nothing to do with USB hub controller drivers unfortunately. Do you know of any alternative methods I could use to transfer my media?

Is the HDD connected via USB 3.0 or 2.0. I have been having some trouble getting mine to be recognized over 3.0

Hey there again, mate!
I'd advise you to try connecting the external HDD on another Windows computer and see how it will get recognized there. Since you already tried connecting the drive to different USB ports, I'd also suggest you find a different USB cable and swap it with the one you are currently using.
If nothing helps, Backup/Copy the files to the iMac and reformat the ext. HDD from there.
If your files are not that big, you could use the FAT32/exFAT file systems when reformatting it. Either one of them should allow you to read//write data on the external from both operating systems. Once you have the drive reformatted, copy back the files to the external drive and attempt to transfer them to the Windows computer.
However, keep in mind that these file systems have file & partition size limitations.
