Hello !
My classmate told me that if I want to edit videos I need to have a gpu that has a lots of ram. Is that true ? If that isn't true what gpu would you recommend for me ? I'm planing to buy system with such components:
----------------------
cpu: i5-6500
mb: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3
ram: Kingston 16GB PC17000 DDR4/KIT2 HyperX Fury HX421C14FBK2/16
{I have a cooler, case and power supply already}
-------------------------------
For me it will cost 404€ (without gpu). Should I wait a bit and for now use gpu I already have (amd radeon HD7870) ? I wouldn't want to spend more than 200€ on gpu if you recommend buying one now.
Thanks!

P.S. In the beginning I wanted to build a system that consumes less power but using this gpu would make it impossible since it uses lot of power and heats my room too much.

Solution
If your video card runs fine, you can use it in the new system till you feel like replacing it. The main thing is your CPU. Remember you also need a hard-drive, solid state is best.

Your classmate is quite mistaken, in fact, the CPU is the MOST ESSENTIAL when performing intensive tasks such as video editing, if you want a dedicated editing rig, you will no be able to treat it like a gaming PC. You need a good CPU with an average GPU, not the opposite.
