I am building a gaming PC. Do I need any special hardware to be able to connect to my wifi network once I build the PC? Thanks!

You will need either a wireless network card that gets installed in one of your motherboard's PCI-express slots, or a USB wireless adapter that plugs into one of your USB ports.

Are you going to be gaming online? If so a wired connection to your router is always preferred as the speed advantage over wireless is significant. Wireless connections will also depend on other factors such as distance from the router, thickness of walls, other wireless signals in the area, strength of the signal transmitted by the router, etc.

Ok thanks and yes I will be playing online and will probably want a wired connection. Would a wired solution be an ethernet cable? What makes any particular wired connector better than others?

Yes, an ethernet cable (Cat5e is the most common) is what you will need to connect the computer to the router. Should be available at any electronics or computer store, or online. I have also made my own and run them to various places in the house through the attic, but that is not for everyone as a special crimping tool is needed and only worth the investment if you are running lots of cable.

I don't think one cable is better than another, unless you are talking about the cheapest ethernet cables which might fail if stepped on repeatedly.

Another thought. It looks like you are building a pretty nice rig. You may want to start a new thread and ask Tom's members for advice on any "tweaks" to the build. I don't see anything that jumps out as incompatible, but I am certainly not the greatest expert on this.

More members seem to be active during the week vs. on the weekends so give it a day or two if you can wait.
