My 4 month old MSI G262 2QE Apache pro has started making clicking noises from the left side of the laptop followed by an occasional clunking noise, around the same time upon start up the American Megatrends screen has been showing up.
the message says.
port 4 : HGST HTS721010A9E630
S.M.A.R.T status Bad, Backup and replace.
Press F1 to Resume...
Does anyone know why this screen is showing up and what the noises might be, and how to fix this?
Thanks.

that is on MSI then. I am afraid it is time to contact them for a repair/replacement. I had a drive that used to make lots of clunking noises and it ran for around six months and then locked up, stopped working for a week, worked great for another and then died. the SMART error reporting is generally right from what I have experienced. I would certainly back up your stuff if you have not already. data loss is more than a pain.
Your drive is either dead or very close to being dead. it appears that the drive has a measure to prevent use other than backup so that you do not loose all your data without warning. has the laptop been dropped or hit? the clicking and clunking implies the hard drive is not spinning well or something else is wrong with it. Is it still under warranty?

The laptop has not been hit or dropped.
Other than the noises and the startup message it seems to be running fine.
It should still be under warranty. I think I had a year warranty when purchased.
The noises seem to come and go.
