Overclock the i3 6100?

Solution
Since recently, it is possible with at least one motherboard that I know of; the ASRock B150 Gaming K4/Hyper. The 'Hyper' range of motherboards (B150 & H170) feature an external base clock generator for overclocking Non-K processors.

There are several other boards with external base clock generators like the ASRrock's (eg. ASUS Sabertooth Z170 S) . It would be good to hear from anyone who's actually used one to OC a Non-K processor.

From what I've read, the dual core i3-6100 doesn't generate much heat, so a water cooler won't necessary.

No, its not possible to overclock this chip since it is not an unlocked chip. An unlocked chip would have a "K" in the name such as a core I7 6700k. Though some skylake locked processors were able to be overclocked due to a exploit in the CPU's code, this has since been patched.
