I am trying to set up a dual monitor pc each having only VGA and HDMI output. My MOBO only has 1 HDMI and 1 VGA output. I want boh\th the monitors to be on HDMI. What do I need to do? I used HDMI splitter which just replicates the other monitor rather than extending my workspace.

Please help urgent.

Solution
Assuming your motherboard does allow for both outputs to run simultaneously, then yes. It should work without having to purchase anything. There shouldn't be any (noticeable) impact on anything you do.

Option 1. Buy a larger monitor with a higher resolution. I don't know what you have now, but two 1080p displays has less area than one 4k screen for example.

Expensive, not often practical at the moment.

Option 2. Install a cheap n' cheerful graphics card with 2xHDMI output - I don't know what PC you have, but if you aren't gaming and just want the screens, a GT710 would be fine http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-710/specifications

As standard, you'd need a DVI-HDMI adaptor for the second monitor, but they are both digital standards, so you won't lose any image quality on the second screen (unlike VGA).

MOBO= 1 HDMI 1 D-SUB
MONITOR1= 1 HDMI 1 VGA no d sub
MONITOR2= 1 HDMI 1 VGA no d sub

hence i wanted another hdmi..otherwise apparently displays will be different on the monitors

Ok. You're going to have to clarify with pictures then because VGA *IS* a 15-Pin DSUB.

Edit: From Left to Right
VGA (15-pin DSub), DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI (MHL), HDMI, DisplayPort.

i thought d-sub= dvi....if my monitor has VGA and HDMI and MOBO (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5686#sp) has 1 hdmi and 1 d-sub i can just connect one monitor via hdmi and another one with d-sub (vga) and wont need to buy any graphics card right? I can then have sound coming through the HDMI connected monitor with other one for just basic work..what would be the impact display wise if I only do basic stuff ?

many many thanks in advance
