From benchmarks and what not, the PS4 steadily runs about 5-10 fps higher than the PS4, for some people, this is a big difference, for others it is not. I would go with the PS4 just based on higher resolution(1080p vs 900p) and better performance in terms of frame rates. Here are some benchmarks to give you an idea:

Ps4 is japanese has a better graphics processor the xbox is American has a better cpu one is slightly better with games the other is better with everything else. Though not much of a difference . The best thing to do would be look at the exclusive games from each machine and then choose. Most of it is pick favorites. As far as I know the Ps4 will have vr but xbox might might use the oculus. And there is as rumor for half gen refresh.

Do you plan on playing online with friends? If so just buy whichever one they own. Other than that the PS4 is slightly better in terms of raw performance and seems to at least for now have some better exclusives. That said the xbox is the underdog and has really been pulling out the stops to add more features to make it more compelling. You can often times find refurb xboxes bundled with several games at or below the market price for a brand new unit.
