I have a lenovo flex 2 pro with an 840m 2gb and an i5 5200u.
Last night I was on Battlefield 4 and I was getting 70-110 fps and it was fine. Then I restarted the game and I only got 40 fps. it found in gpu-z that my gpu was only running a core clock speed of 405MHz whilst playing and a memory clock of 800MHz. It used to be close to max which is 1259MHz core and 1124MHz memory. I am not sure why this has suddenly happened can someone please suggest a possible solution or a problem that I may need to fix.

I used to get max temps of 78 C but now they only go up to a max of 56 C when running fur-mark for a while.
I am on windows 10 . The gpu is overclocked with msi afterburner. Even when I take away the overclock the clock speeds stay the same. I am also on the 364.51 drivers and have not updated as I have seen that the latest drivers may be bad.

Solution
It's an easy fix, I had this problem too when I tried to overclock and old 310m, if the clock speed is running low it means that the overclock was too high and the GPU lowered speeds to prevent damage.
How to fix:
Disable msi afterburner to automatically apply overclocks at system start up, then restart your PC, now open MSI Afterburner and lower overclock speeds (both core and memory clocks) and click apply, run the stress-test (fur-mark is not good, use MSI Kombustor) for about an hour or 2. If nothing goes wrong you're good to go.
If something weird hapens lower overclock speeds again and test again untill you're stable.
Only when you are 100% sure you are stable, you may enbale MSI afterburner to automatically apply...
Video card may have been damaged when running it overclocked and it can't run at higher speeds.

Best way to rule out any software issues is to get a spare hard drive, install a clean Windows setup, use the Lenovo provided drivers and see how it runs then.

Do you mean I should back up all of my files onto a hard drive or install windows onto one and boot off of it? Also if I have a clean install of windows then where will I get the Lenovo drivers from. I'm just not sure how I would do this.

If you don't have a spare drive, then you can backup your files and settings, Favorites, etc.. and just set the original drive to factory defaults. But if the issue is hardware that would be a waste of work. If you have a spare drive, better to use that, but then you'll need a Windows disk to run the setup. You can get a free Windows 10 download for that though, just run the Windows utility to make a boot disk on a DVD or flash drive and use that. The drivers you can get directly from Lenovo on any computer. Chipset, video, audio and power management are the main ones you need.

I have a 32gb flash drive so will that be enough to intalls windows onto? And when I am finished testing can I just boot off of my regular drive and go back to normal? If it does turn out to be a software problem ( I'm not sure but I got low framerates in BF4 suddenly a while but I didn't check what the clock speeds were then it just went back to normal now it has happened again) then how would I go around checking what was causing the problem? Could I install all my programs onto a fresh install and between installing programs check if the problem has come back again to check what was causing the problem. Also thank you for the fast replies.

You can also try to reinstall all the drivers using Geforce Experience.
Good luck!

I did a similar thing that seems to have fixed it whilst I was looking for solution I could do. I lowered the overclock and played my games but clock speed was still low. After a while a got some issues with java and reinstalled it and restarted and I think after that restart the clock speeds went back to normal. I will try using MSI Kombustor to test the settings I am on right now to be absolutely certain the overclock is stable. Thanks.

No I didn't think to restart after lowering the overclocks but I had done before.
