So if I buy a new copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 NOW or before the deadline would I get the free upgrade to windows 10?

As long as you upgrade before the offer ends, which I believe is July 29th, 2016.

Question is, if you're going to install Windows 10 anyway, why purchase windows 7 or 8.1? Just purchase 10!

In case you're wondering, if you purchase Windows 7/8/8.1 and then upgrade to Windows 10 for free, you cannot install the previous version of Windows onto any other machine.

If you buy 7 or 8 you never even have to install it to get 10. Just download 10 from Microsoft and install it and input the 7 or 8 key and it will activate.

yeah I know that. as far as I know you don't need a copy of 7 or 8 you can just make a bootable drive on another system and use that.
