Hey there ,
So I have been looking around at gpu's for a while and I've decided to go with AMD cause of the best price to performance , Looking at the R9 380 and seeing the hole 2gb and 4gb Vram did a bit of looking around and I can't find a good reason why to go for the 4gb over the 2 gb especially since its like 20 euro more expensive? any thoughts?
Thanks!

ram does not really work like that. if less than 2gb is used, both the 2gb and 4gb versions wil perform the same. more ram does not equal more fps. however, once your usage exceeds 2gb, the less endowed card will start to stutter, freeze, etc. and the experience will degrade SIGNIFICANTLY, even if the max fps will still apear to be good.

$20 more for 4gb on a capable card such as the 380 is a no-brainer.

It depends on the games you play and how long you intend to use the gpu. Games are already exceeding 2gb, so if you plan on any AAA gaming in the future, definitely go for 4g.

Right now there's not really a significant difference between 2 vs 4 GB at 1080p, although there are a few games where it is starting to be noticeable. The idea is that we're sort of on the cusp of needing >2 GB for 1080p, so going with a 4 GB card is a form of future-proofing.

If you are spending the money on an R9 380, another 20 to make sure you are not hitting a RAM limit is really not much of an issue. Now if you were buying a low end card, then that extra 20 may be a big deal, for a higher end card, saving 20 is not worth maybe having the card not perform as well as it could at higher resolutions with large textures.

Like I said, right now there is very little difference in all but a few games. http://www.techspot.com/review/1114-vram-comparison-test/
In theory, a 4 GB is more future proof.

Argument in favour of 4 GB:
Games are slowly requiring more VRAM, which means a 4 GB card will be more future proof
The cost difference from 2 to 4 GB isn't that great relative to the price of the card

Argument against 4 GB:
People have been saying you need to get >2 GB to future proof for some time now (at least 2-3 years), and there's still barely any difference. So by the time 4 GB really is needed, the GPU will be too weak to manage anyway.

For the price, I would honestly advise getting the 4GB model just because it will be future proof as the gentleman above said. Also, if I may inquire, what is your budget and perhaps, your full build? That way I can help you more.
