hi .thank you for response.this is a ongoing mystery .new build and wanted to establish back up drive d using 4 hd,s hitachi which i had in raid on my asrock mobo.
with this new asus maxv seems ports not working or even showing up. this is a new install of win 10 which was working fine and i updated windows and all known drivers ,i even downloaded raid drivers and software from asus disk .win 10 has been working fine for a month .but not know since i selected from raid to ahci ,seems i have to reinstall windows .so once i get this working again i will search and use this driver software and attempt .
thank you

So i try to understand what you said. 1) You want to use the 4x HDD for raid in the asus MB, but they were in other MB ( asrock) that are in the RAID too. So if it is ture, you need reset up the raid, and they will not be recognize by the new asus MB. Back up the data to other HDD. connect those HDD then format and set up the RAID. 2) For other problem, when you switch the storage mode from raid to ahci, you need change the registry subkeys value under the safe mode. Just pull out one from online https://samnicholls.net/2016/01/14/how-to-switch-sata-raid-to-ahci-windows-10-xps-13/

yes , you have correct understanding ,this is my first asus mobo , clearly more temperamental then asrock .and yes on my asrock i have 2 ssd.s in raid o and 4 hd,s in raid 5 . presently i attempted to set up ssd as drive c and 4 hd,s in raid 5 .since i have failed , i need to back up and learn how to activate all ports , first ,before going forward , you seem to have a good understanding , and you have my attention , but i do have time restriction ,working and life ,last night i attempted to repair win , 10 to work ,seems to be stuck on circle spinning ,after hour or reset and start up repair .
so i will follow your instructions to prevent ,loss from switching .
once again thank you . fortunate to meet you.

after reading article provided . i believe that i set up windows in raid . reason i went back to ahci is to try to discover the asmedia ports .thinking raid ,selection could have been issue simple turning on buttons see what they do . but to reinstall windows ,is wasting my time .
so my next corse action will be select raid .reinstall windows . and i am back to square 1 , how to make asmedia ports work and how to make raid work .asus chat support gave me instructions , on raid .simply select raid restart and when the raid windows shows simply select Ctrl and i , but what happens when raid array windows does not even show up .,which was the case for me .and no asmedia ports .
so is this a driver issue ? if not , i am in the dark.

you are correct , i found out the hard way , raid on this mobo will only work with just 2 ports , intell .but why does this mobo have 4 asmedia ports ,when you can not do anything with them ,this has become ,my issue , manual steps you can add a hard drive or optical drive .ok how?
i was going to use a raid card ,which has universal pci slots ,but they don't fit into the pci slot on mobo which i believe to be 32 x16 ,strictly for graphics card .no pci 2 or 4 or 8 , slots either .
but this mobo does have a mini m ssd card holder with attached wifi , so i believe i should install os on this pci mini .and use the two ports for raid ,intel ports only two thoe .
which means purchasing ssd,s not looking forward to that option when i have so many hd,s available . but what is the reason for the asmedia ports which oyt number all other ports .which i can not seem to get them to function .

If you have 4x HDD for raid, one SSD, and one DVD/CD, then you can set up like: the SSD in the red sataIII port, the 4x HDD in 3x sata II ( black) + 1x sataIII ( red) , and the dvd/cd in the asmedia sata port, but you will install the asmedia sata controller driver.
Your MB has one pciex4 slot, it is more than enough for the add-on raid card. But again, I don't know how many gpu you use, if you use more gpu, then you may not be able to use that pciex4. If you buy the pciex8, or x16 add-on card, you can use that card in one of the pciex16 slot too.

you are right track, thank you , i will give this a try which i believe should work, just couple questions my raid card has 3 tab,s which is too small for pci4 , and too big for pci 8.,but i will shop if , if i need too..
But i will have to reload windows .should i set it to raid and reinstall , i assume yes
To down load asmedia , drivers and along with raid . should that be in cd, which came with mobo i noticed and have dowen loaded raid from there . but i have not seen asmedia .
i am off sunday which i will give this i run . once agin thank you been very supportive and if work will pick as best option .

Can you add the link for that add-on card? You may need the pci slot, but your MB does not have one.

You don't have to reinstall the win10, check the link to see how to switch between RAID and AHCI mode without reinstall the OS. It is for the win8 but it will be similar to the win10. http://www.overclock.net/t/1227636/how-to-change-sata-modes-after-windows-installation

Keep in mind the asmedia sata ports do not support RAID.
