Im looking at either an AMD r9 390x or an nvidia gtx980 ti. I been asking and lot of people i talk to in person around me are more for the gtx980 ti than the amd even though the amd is 8gb and the 980 ti is 6gb. wanting to see what others think. At some point i may go with two of the same video cards once i upgrade my 850watt psu i have along with my crosshair v formula ( not the formula z) board that i already have.

Yea thats one thing i heard is about the drivers being better for nvidia. Ive always had nvidia and always trusted them just thought i check into amd. I did see the titan x and the 980 ti are very close to the same in the specs minus a few differences and didnt think it warranted the cost of getting the titan x over the 980 ti for the price difference.

yea i was looking into the fury nano as its the air cool card but how does that compare to the 980 ti and how well does it perform if you do sli? my guess as of right now i wont be doing more than two cards i dont think. Not sure if ill see much of a performance gain with more than two.

although i could get the liquid cooled version and possibly have one with the liquid cooler mounted on back blowing air through the RAD and out the back vent. and then future have one with the RAD mounted up front pushing air into the RAD and letting fans suck the air out or just let it push air through the RAD and out the front. but not sure. Never did anything with liquid cooliing though. I dont really OC my CPU or graphics cards or anything.

I was looking at the Gigabyte Xtreme OC and the asus strix and both looked pretty close as far as specs go like memory clock etc.

This one or the Asus Strix 980Ti. Both are great GPUs. My STrix is quiet as hell most of the time. Just need to swap out my H100i fans to make my system quiet now.

I think the only thing nVidia has over AMD is release. They release more drivers it seems. Not always a good thing but it is nice to see. I miss the monthly release AMD had but they missed it more often than not.

Can't speak for crossfire/sli but for just 1 on 1. But in general the Fury performs best at 4k and can sometimes beat the 980ti, but not by a lot. However at resolutions below 4k the 980ti starts to win more often. The ultimate hold back is the Furys 4gig or RAM which is a real pain at resolutions over 1080. But neither card is a hands down better than the other. That all said supposedly Nvidia will formally announce their new pascal line up this month, so that might changes things again.

oh ok. Sounds like the best to go with is maybe the ASUS Strix 980 ti or Gigabyte Xtreme OC. After reading both links, the fury trails the 980 ti at 4k by only 4% meaning the 980 ti is a tad better but not by much. but considering i dont have a 4k monitor it wouldnt really matter to me much at this point but i am a fan of asus products and nvidia products just thought id check into the competitors and see. I just gotta figure out which brand to go with or model as far as 980 ti is concerned. I was looking at the ones that Gam3r01 mentioned. The asus strix would look nice in my red/black theme but jsut wanna make sure i get the most out of the specs as possible

I have the Asus Strix and I love it. I have a black/red theme with white LEDs going on and it looks great with my Asus ROG Maximus VI Formula.

That said, in the reviews it is hard to tell what 980Ti they use. I assume most use the stock 980Ti but one like the Strix or Gigabyte and MSI OC are heavily overclocked meaning the results will be different than what most reviews say.

That will show you how the Strix itself performs vs other GPUs.

Yea it looks like it performs better than some other gtx 980 ti's like the gigabyte g1 version as well as the fury in some cases. Guess the card to go with would be the ASUS 980 ti strix version
