Hi.

I want to ask about thoughts on my new PC build plan, and what PSU to get for it.

Asus Z97-A MB
Intel i7 4970K - 4.0GHz
HyperX 16GB Savage DDR3 2400MHz KIT CL11
1x Samsung SSD 250GB 850 EVO SATA3
1x Toshiba 3TB HDD 7200 64MB SATA3
1x Gigabyte GTX980Ti 6GB GDDR5 G1 Gaming

I was thinking about going for EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850W, but I don't know if I need that much, since I don't know how accurate PSU calculators are.

i would appreciate thoughts on the build as well as advice for the PSU.

Thank you.

That power supply will be just fine, it is an excellent unit. As for the cooler, it will depend on if you are going to overclock and how high.

No to low overclock: cryorig H7
medium to high overclock: noctua NH-D15
Extreme overclock: custom water cooling loop or even liquid nitrogen

If you are planning on going and getting a second GPU in future for SLI than I would get the 850W one, but if you are not planning on ever getting that second card, then I'd get the 650W one or the FSP hydro G 650W

Why did you decide not to go with skylake for your build?

What would you suggest getting if I go Skylake? Mostly I was considering my budget, which is around 1500e. I don't plan on getting a new G card in the next 3 years at least.

I would just change the parts to their skylake equivalents, so i7 6700k, ASUS z170-A, 16GB of DDR4-3000/3200MHz RAM and a cooler like the cryorig H7 (as the i7 6700k doesn't come with a stock cooler). In that case, I would certainly go with one of the 650W options then, as you aren't planning on running a second GPU by the sound of things

Ok, considering this the CPU is 50e more + however much for the cooler. The MB is almost the same value +4e.
About the RAM, the price is + 82e if i go with DDR4 @ 3000Mhz CL15. I can get DDR4 @2666MHz CL15 for about the same value I would spend for the DDR3 ( +4e). Will it suffice?

What do I gain by upgrading, and is it worth it in your opinion?

It gives you more PCI-e lanes to do things which means you can add m.2 SSDs and alike with less of a problem, making overall performance higher, skylake is also about 6% faster on average for CPU tasks, and it also overclocks better than haswell. In that case I would go with the 2666MHz RAM then. I would go with skylake due to the newer platform and the fact that you will be able to upgrade it more into the future

You do have a point, I will consider this, and probably go with it as well. Thanks for the input.
As for the PSU and the cooler for the 6700k what do you recommend?

Will this one be ok - EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR 80 PLUS GOLD 750W ?

I will not be overclocking from the start, only when needed in the future, as the software gets more demanding.

Thank you very much. just one more question, while I was looking around for prices of MoBos , I found that ASROCK Z170 Extreme4 costs less then the competitors. Would you recommend it, or any other specific MB for the build?

It costs less for a reason, it is made with lower specifications, I personally recommend motherboards higher up in the ASROCK product list normally. If you do plan on overclocking to any serious degree, you will want a better motherboard than the Extreme 4

Would you recommend a few? Not necessarily ASRock.
