I've accidentally deleted a folder containing very important videos and photos on my USB thumbdrive and I can't recover them via recycle bin. I tried using a recovery program (Windows 8) but when the files were located and I tried recovering them, the program asked me to buy the full version . As a college student with no money I can't afford to purchase any programs at this time is there any type of free program out there or are they all free-trial/purchase to use programs?

Please help! :(

I thought that those recovery programs could recover from HDD with platters, recover deleted data from flash memory, Hmm does not sound possible

The program found the files, it just wouldn't let me recover them until I paid for the program, which I cannot, even if I wanted to.

Make an image of the drive with ddrescue so you dont further damage the drive trying to recover the files. Then use photorec or testdisk to recover the files. These are all free opensource tools.

Skittle coming in clutch as usual. I'll check it out after class and see if it works.
