Hi guys, I'm new here...

First off, my apologies if this is not the format of creating this type of post and if I'm even posting this at the right place.

My current computer is 6 years old + and thought it was time to get a new one all together. My first reflex was to go to a computer shop and having them build it for me like i usually do. But, I have started doing some research and thought to myself "hey, maybe I can do this myself". Thought it was time to do things for myself instead of others.

I do have a few very basic questions and didn't know where to ask.

First question : I know when I baught my current computer it came with disks, which allowed me to connect to the internet, among other things. So, my question is, when you build your own computer, do you get these disks?

Second question : Do you need to worry about getting/purchasing additional components/hardware/wires that doesn't come with the essential hardware? Meaning if you buy all the essential hardware, does it come with all the necessary wires and such ?

Third question : Once you've finally build your desktop and put all the pieces together and you are ready to fire it up, do you need to play in Bios settings or Bios will just be a matter of being fancy with overclocking and stuff ?

Thank you so much guys in advance and my apologies again if I'm not doing this the right way.

1: Windows typically will handle everything with default drivers. You may wish to add additional drivers, and typically will want to install the disks provided with your parts as listed in their instruction booklets.

2: Most parts that are new in box come with everything you need. If you buy a CPU, make sure it either comes with a CPU cooler or you purchase one. Solid state drives may require a mounting bracket if you cheap out on the case. Otherwise everything should be included.

3: BIOS will typically resolve itself, either automatically or with a prompt to continue with default options.

1. Yes driver disk are included but always down load the latest ones from the manufacturers website.
2.Most of the cables you will need comes with the motherboard and power supply. Cases comes with your mounting hardware.
3. I do not want to scare you here. Your bios is pretty much sets it's self to the required settings automatically. With that said you still need to update your bios right away before installing windows on a PC. With the newer motherboards on most of them you down load it to a USB drive and there is a easy program that will flash it in the Bios. Unlike the olds days where we had to use a floppy drive.

1) In most cases the drivers and other software for each component (motherboard, GPU, etc.) are either included with the OS, come on a CD with the component, or available for download from the manufacturer's site, frequently all three.

2) The components almost always ship with the necessary cables and installation hardware. You will only rarely need to separately purchase any of these - sometimes you will need a longer cable, or something like that, but at the end, expect to have left over cables, screws, and brackets.

3) Some slight dinking around with BIOS will probably be necessary, enabling XMP profiles for memory, maybe changing the UEFI settings to conform with the OS's requirements, that kind of thing. Fortunately, its a brand new machine at that point, so if you screw anything up you can always reset to factory-stupid and try again without having to worry about losing anything.
