A while back my Lenovo laptop crashed and when I got it back up and running and did a system restore, the internet worked directly through an ethernet cable but no WiFi networks show up at all. It's not just my own personal WiFi network that doesn't show up, there's just no option for connecting to WiFi.

My wireless switch is turned on.

I thought it may have been a driver issue so I downloaded the WiFi driver for my computer's model. That didn't solve it.

Microsoft's troubleshooting page says "If a network monitoring program is running on your computer, the wireless network adapter will be set to monitor mode, which prevents Windows from connecting to wireless networks. To connect to a wireless network, close the network monitoring program or follow the instructions in the program to exit monitor mode."

This is my best guess as to what the problem is, but I don't know what a network monitoring program is and I wasn't able to find out through a google search. I had installed a couple of programs that did a screen sharing type thing for giving user reviews of websites so I thought I could have been those. I installed those programs and still no change.

Anyone familiar with this problem?

Two suggestions, and a wild guess here. The first suggestion: have you looked in Control Panel/Device Manager to see if the wireless adapter is actually enabled? If it's not, enable it. Second suggestion: Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task Manager. Look in the running applications and the processes and services tabs. See if you see anything that could be a "network monitoring" program.

Wild guess: Maybe whatever caused your crash damaged your laptop's wifi. One workaround would be to plug in a USB external wifi adapter. Another approach would be to take it to a repair place and have them look into it.

The only thing I could find is something that says it's a MOM.exe file, the description says "Catalyst Control Center: Monitoring Program" but I look it up and it looks like it's a legit file for ATI video cards? I dunno.

When I go in to the control panel and Network Connections, the only two options it gives me is 'Bluetooth Network Connection' and 'Local Area Connection'.

Should there be an option for 'Wireless Network Connection'?

I'm now experiencing problems with my keyboard. The numbers part of the qwerty keyboard aren't working - the 5 and 6 are - and the zero and two buttons on the num pad aren't working either. Could this be a sign of a more serious problem?

This laptop is turning into a clunker and if I had the money I would just get a new one but I don't
