Sorry to disturb this forums again in just a day, but i'm in my late planning stage for my pc, and i dont want to make any mistakes.
so how will a sapphire 390x tri-x overclocked to as high as possible (the average highest, since i know not all gpus are created equal) and how will it compared to a stock 980 9if i am getting a 980 over this, i will get the cheapest possible one, so it will probably be the stock clocked ones)

another question, how is the performance of this card running gameworks (i only need hbao+, i dont need the others, unless i have the extra power). and is a i7-6700 enough to run physx as well as (mid end)nvidia cards?

Solution
The 390x can be slightly faster than the 980 depending on the game:

Gameworks and physx won't run nearly as well on amd cards and the cpu as they would a decent nvidia card. They will perform very similar now of course if you overclock one and not the other it will perform better. The nvidia features while nice and are pretty are rarely used. The 390x in crossfire will perform better than the 980 in sli due to the extra vram in 4k test. So it depends on what games you play and what resolution. Amd cards tend to draw more power and output more heat. The nvidia card has the features you want but they will perform roughly the same. Certain games will perform slightly better on either card.

What is the rest of your build? Make/model.
I suspect you can do better.

Generally, a GTX970 is comparable to a R9-390X.
I would expect a GTX980 to be better performer, but all depends on the price.

Few games can use more than 2-3 cores so the hyperthreads of a i7-6700K will be largely unused.
You can save some with a i5-6600K.

I do not know much about PhysX.

I think you have forgotten to remove the X lol.

Anyway, I think maximum overclock R9 390X would beat stock 980, at least in some titles, and by stock I mean TOTALLY stock. No "GPU Boost" or anything. I doubt that there are any benchmarks on this one or if any so it's hard to say what would happen exactly but I'd have my money on R9 390X

Gameworks will screw over any AMD card and even the older generation Nvidia cards too. You can't really escape it so either buy GTX 980 and support cancer that Nvidia is or buy R9 390X and have shitty performance(on Gameworks titles only tho).

The only gameworks effect i need is HBAO+, i hope i can run it fine

how hot will a fully overclocked tri-x 390x run, can it overclock(and overvolt) safely more than other models of the 390x? i've heard it hasa very good fan
