Hi Everyone,

I am looking to build my first rig and some friends sent me here for advice on builds. I tried to use the sticky post to get all of the relevant info, but if someone could help with a suggested build or some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: Within the next month.

Budget Range: $1500-2000 (flexible if needed to be a little over)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: (Gaming, watching streams)

Are you buying a monitor: No, I currently have 3 ASUS VS239-H-P Monitors that I would like to incorporate into the build.
http://www.amazon.com/VS239H-P-1920x1080-DVI-D-Back-lit-Monitor/dp/B008DWITHI

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, is now the time to upgrade to Windows 10?

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: NewEgg, Amazon, no real preference but those are where I get the majority of my parts.

Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia in the United States

Parts Preferences: I'm not in the NVIDIA or AMD camp, but would like something that is simple and reliable.

Overclocking: Maybe, my father has some experience overclocking systems and he is going to help with the build so I may ask him to tinker with the rig for me.

SLI or Crossfire: Yes / Maybe (I'm not sure how the technology has advanced but I think this is still a requirement for 3+ Monitor Gaming)

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I would like to stay away from Water Cooling as I am a beginner and I think that would be a little advanced for me. I also would like to incorporate atleast a 500GB SSD as I have had storage capacity problems in the past. I typically like to play games such as Dota 2, CS GO, Far Cry, Skyrim etc. while also leaving open a stream of either Twitch or HBO go or something on a secondary monitor, so I would like the rig to be able to perform at that level.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: For fun, my rig is around 7-8 years old and I recently got some bonus money for working my tail off during the winter. I have some vacation planned in the next few weeks that I thought would be a good time to tackle this project. Any help or suggested builds would be great. Thanks!

Overclock as you please. Add a second GTX 980 TI in SLI when / if you need more graphics muscle...

If you have a flexible budget there's a couple of different ways that you can go. And I will use the 950 Pro M2 ddrive over the 850 Evo. First is going with an X99 setup:

The X99 system will allow you to go with a 3 or 4 way SLI setup should you decide to upgrade your monitors to 4K or should you decide to start using VR later on.

Thanks guys! These are some sweet builds, I think I am going to end up going with the X99 setup just in case I want to upgrade my monitors later on. A couple of final questions,

Is there any downside to going with the Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive and removing the extra storage? My only thought was that I would rather not have to move files between storage units and as I don't store alot of video files I doubt I will ever need more than the 500G of storage.

Lastly, my father (who has built all of my previous rigs) mentioned that he used to use ASRock motherboards but stopped after having some issues with a few. After doing some research it seems like this iteration of the ASRock board comes very highly rated (and I'm sure the reason you put it in the build is because you like them and don't have concerns), but is there an alternative ASUS or other branded board that would also work with the setup (even if lets just say I hated the color yellow)?

Thanks again for the help.

You should have no problems with just a single drive. The Samsung 950 PRO should be an excellent drive. Though the Magician software that Samsung offers is a bit buggy (just FYI). You don't need Magician though, so no biggie. The only possible downside to having the one drive is the obvious issue of storage capacity. You'll want to leave about 30% of it's capacity empty to get the best performance speeds out of it.

Also, just a side note, if you want to SLI your GPU in the future, you'll probably want to SLI two at most. Threeway/Fourway SLI have performance disadvantages. There's plenty of reports online discussing that. It's something to consider when choosing your GPU.

There are plenty of motherboards out there that are pretty good. You just have to do a bit of research to make sure they're reliable, and that they have the specs you want. I hope these notes help.

1. No - storage needs vary from user to user. And you can always add or remove drives as you need them.

2. What is the issue with Asrock if I may ask? My last couple of boards have been Asrock and my current one I have overclocked to 4.3GHz and haven't run into any problems yet. You could get something like this:
