This is the my first pc build and this is what I have so far. I am going to use it to do simple msi afterburner overclocking because I already actually have the graphics card. I might even sli the 980. Is this build good? Where might I be able to cut down on the cost because I am a bit over budget. Recommendations? Is the 6700k really necessary?
(The parts were mostly selected because of their availability in amazon prime). Especially the case and motherboard.

Dropped the i7 down to an i5, different cooler and put in a far cheaper motherboard. This allows you to fit a 980ti within your budget, which paired with the i5 will give you better gaming performance than an i7 with a 980 :)

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($238.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.50 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Micro Center)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($79.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive...
This would be a well balanced system. Now if you upgraded the video card or went with an SLI configuration, you may get a slight bump form the i7 versus the i5. The Asus Z170 Pro Gaming would be nice too if you wanted to save even more.

It's almost identical to what I finally decided on! Concept-wise I mean, not exactly the same parts but the general idea seems to be the same. I can't opt for an ssd because I'm actually squeezing the last bit of my budget with this one.
