What Router Can Get Me the Wireless Speed I Paid For? (+180mbps)

Okay, so when I plug my ethernet cable directly from the modem into my PC, I get around 180mbps. But I bought a cheap router, the TP Link WR841N, and that makes my maxed out comcast "blast" internet kind of a waste of money, because I barely get 60mbps wirelessly even when I am right next to it.

So, please, what is an under one hundred dollar router that can take me over the 100mbps threshold at least? Man, this stuff is complicated. I don't understand what the difference is between WAN to LAN and LAN to WAN ports. Frequencies? I don't get it either.

I'm just tired of my roommate complaining about the internet.

LAN is local network aka your ethernet or wifi connection. WAN is your outside connection, generally speaking to a modem that goes up the the internet.

For the router you listed looks like the WAN is maxed at 100Mbps so on wifi or ethernet the best speed you would ever get is 100Mbps. So the router can't handle the full speed your modem/comcast is sending it. Also the wireless speed will always, always be less than what is advertised on the box. You'll never get the pure signal the manufacturer got in their clean room with zero interference.

I would look at the one superninja linked to or others in that price range. You want one that has gigabyte ports or 10/100/1000. That will let your router have full access to all the...

So this can push out speeds over 100 mbps WIRELESS INTERNET? Does it work with TP link brand repeaters? I thought I read something that it might not. I live in an apartment, a two-roomer, so space and walls shouldn't be too much of a problem.

There is this crazy thing where they advertise ridiculous speeds of how fast your computer can connect to like, a printer something. Who cares about that! I'm talking about when I go on the Ookla speed test website, that dial will push over 100 mbps.

Please forgive my exasperated tone! I've been buying a lot of unnecessary crap apparently, because I just don't get it. Every router says they have some ridiculous speed, but then most of them don't.

thats because theyre using the newest ac wifi, and current devices use n based networking.
the details aside.
this is a geat quality router.

over a 100mbps via wifi, yes if your internet subscription allows it.
maybe its locked to 40mbs.

and 40mbs isnt that bad. i can download stream league without lagging.

for frequencies to it goes B, G, N and the new AC standard. Most stuff should be capable of using N these days and brand new stuff should start having AC on it.
