Hi,

I recently built a new PC without an optical drives with intent to install the OS and drivers through USB. I installed the OS fine from a External Drive onto my SSD. When I logged on etc I plugged in my ethernet cable planning to download drivers from online when I realised and it showed the driver for the LAN wasn't installed. Then I decided to download the drivers on my laptop put them onto a USB Flash Drive and move them across but the OS won't detect the USBs. When I go into BIOS it recognises them and can see them but when I'm up on Windows 7 and go into My Computer they are nowhere to be found (including in Computer>Manage>Storage).

Any ideas?

Solution

OK. If they do show up in the BIOS, I would say it's most likely drivers. Try using a linux live installation on the PC - if it detects the drive, copy over the drivers to the windows HDD and then install them once you boot back into windows.

Yes every USB input and not showing up

Hmm... That's odd. Have you tried a different USB stick?

Yes a normal 4GB stick and 1TB external hard drive, neither are detected by the OS

Good idea! Thanks for that, I will try it out and if Linux doesn't detect them either I'll let you know
