Hi all, I recently purchased an SSD, I was hoping to use the SSD to as my boot driver and the HDD as my storage drive, any help would be amazing!

P.S I also have an external HDD

Solution
Just set it up like another HD. Put it in your PC, boot in to BIOS change the default boot disk to the SSD, boot from your OS installation DVD, install your OS.

If this seems complicated or you pay some computer shop to do it. I believe both staples and Best Buy offer to make an image of your old HD and move it to your new one (so your installed files stay installed)

I install an EVO SSD a while ago and I found that if I kept the old HDD in when I install my SSD as the master drive so it was the master drive then installed the OS on it then the BIOS got confused and did not know which windows to boot to.

So only have the SSD in, install OS and then get to windows and do what you need to do driver/update wise.
Then plug in the HDD and go to the my computer screen then right click the HDD then format after you have took what you want off it. Then restart your pc and your done.

Will I have to do anything to the old HD, e.g delete the old files on it?

You don't have to do anything. I recommend that once you've moved your data over to your new HD and no longer need to be able to boot from the old HD that you either do some cleanup or format it. But that is only if and when you feel like it.
