There's so many keyboards out there and it's kind of overwhelming because a lot of them falsely claim to be mechanical. Also, I've never owned a mechanical keyboard and i have no clue where to start. From what i understand, i can add sound dampeners and change the switches on them?

What I'm looking for is kind of in the title. My ideal budget is $50-$70 for an intro mech keyboard. No need for any extras like backlit/extra keys/whatever. All i need is a keyboard that will last a while, have number keys, and maybe a palm rest for extended sessions such as gaming.

Edit: Also from what i've read about the different switches, i may be interested in the browns over anything else. Quieter, but still have that tactile feedback when you press the key.

Keyboards are so subjective with respect to touch and feedback. "Hands on" is the best buying approach.

Go to a few "big box" stores and try the keyboards on display. Look at the construction and overall ruggedness of each board.

Identify two, three, or four keyboards that you like and are in your budget. Go online and look for reviews and ratings. Visit the manufacturer's websites for FAQ and forum comments on those keyboards.

Then choose and purchase. Always trade-offs to be made so think about what requiremenst are really most important to you.
