Hey there!

I would love to get a new graphics card in order to run VR and some other games better. Steam currently says my Radeon HD 7950 is not good enough to run VR well with an average of about 90 fps. I'm trying to get one that would run VR in about 150 fps and is not too expensive.

Any good suggestions out there? Many thanks :)

Are you going with the i7-6700 or the i7-6700k? If you want to overclock go with the i7-6700k and a Z170 motherboard. If you don't care about overclocking go with the i7-6700 and an H110 motherboard.

I don't want to recommend exact brands and models because I don't know pricing in your country. Any H110 or Z170 motherboard would be compatible though. I always go with a...

Well the Vive has a resolution of 2160x1200 so 150 FPS would be pretty tough to pull off. The max that the headset can display is 90 FPS anyways.

The minimum recommended GPUs are the GTX 970 or the R9 290 and games are always asking for more power as time passes so I don't think it makes sense to go with anything less powerful than that.

From there it comes down to your budget. You didn't really specify. If you have about $350 to spend your choices are the GTX 970 or R9 390.

I would skip the 980 and 390X because they aren't really a good value in terms of price to performance when compared with other GPUs.

If you can spend $500 the R9 Fury would be a good choice and if you can stretch to $650 the GTX 980 Ti is the best choice.

Obviously the further you go down that list the longer your card will be capable of holding 90 FPS in new VR games. It really comes down to what you can afford to spend. There is something to be said for going with a cheaper option like the 970/390 and upgrading every 2 years though.

I'm looking into the R9 Fury, my friend recommended the gtx 970 but it doesn't look like it would be a long lasting GPU. What R9 Fury are you referring to? There are a couple of different brands all in the 500-600 range.

The standard Fury for $500. If you go up to the Fury X price range you could get a 980 Ti for about the same price and that is a better card for most games.

This doesn't really relate to the discussion in this thread. You really should make your own thread to ask about DSR. The short version is that you shouldn't need to use it if you are playing on a 4K monitor.

I asked around and apparently I need to upgrade almost my whole pc to be able to run an R9 Fury. I'm probably going to get an Intel i7-6700K CPU with it but also need to upgrade my motherboard and my power thingy (im dutch so i dont know the name :3).

What would be a good compatible motherboard to use with the i7-6700 and the Asus Radeon R9 Fury STRIX 4GB?

If you go with the i7-6700k you will also need an aftermarket cooler. It's meant for overclockers so they don't bother to include a stock cooler. Something cheap like the Hyper 212 EVO will be fine unless you are going for extreme overclocks.

If you go with the i7-6700 the cooler it comes with will be fine. It still doesn't hurt to throw a Hyper 212 EVO in there for extra cooling but it's not necessary.
