Can I use a single 16gb ram in my 4x DIMM board

Ive got ASUS B150M- C D3 motherboard and wondering if I can use a single memory module, be it a single 8gb one or a 16gb one, or is it a must that I have to use rams in a pair. What I mean to ask is if I can leave 3 out of 4 memory slots empty.

It isnt a must, but you do take a memory performance hit by only using a single kit.
You should get at least two sticks.

You can yes, though as Gam3r01 stated, you won't be able to utilize dual channel mode which can be up to a 10-15% performance increase of the DRAM
