Asus p5vx-se memory

greets

I have ASUS P5VX-SE motherboard and I have 4gb (2x2gb stick) installed on my pc. But my pc only show 2.50gb installed memory and usable memory. Runin Windows 8.1 x32 , 64 bit based processor. I need help to solve this problem of not reading at least 3.5 gb.

Use CPU-Z, Memory tab; does it detect 4 GB? Then check each module in the SPD tab. Are they both detected as a 2 GB module?

In 32bit windows you get 4GB MAXIMUM addressable space. This includes what address spaces is used by the motherbd, peripherals, and GPU.

I'm betting you have a 1 GB gpu in there or the motherbd has taken 1GB for its integrated gpu?

Install 64bit windows (your key should be valid) and you should see all your ram.

My guess is if indeed two 2 GB sticks, it's allotting 1.5 over to the GPU and/or other hardware

Might be how it reads from the BIOS, what does CPU-Z say in the memory tab for total - and what does it show as amount for each stick in the SPD tab

That's what I also asked. The OP may have a module that gets detected as 512 MB instead of 2 GB.

Yep, was reemphasizing that, also Popatim pointed out if 32bit that will be cutting some - some is just where it's saying 2.5 as far as where it's reading that from

Noup , it still showing this. I am kinda frustrated cuz i don't know the reason of not showing real count. I try to change stick to another slots but also showing same.

You haven't included the SPD info for each module; we also need that info. Include the info for both slots.

CPU-Z can't read the SPD. To make sure both modules really are 2 GB, remove one module and check how much memory is detected in the BIOS. Reinstall it and remove the second module and perform the same check.

Both modules showing 2048m each one of them and in each slot , but when i connect 2 of them i just get 2560. And they still not showing in SPD CPU-Z...

If i can remember good when i had winxp sp3 i think i had 3.50gb...but don't know why it's not showing on this win 8.1

Why did you install Windows x86 instead of x64? However even with x64, that motherboard would not make all memory available.

Cuz someone told me that with my pc config i should install x86. Honestly i am searching to buy a new motherboard that suit my other pc parts...if u have any suggestion that would be nice. Sorry for leading the thread to another thing.

Maybe i will install winxp sp3 x86 to see for possible changes in performance...

What CPU? You can find a used socket 775 motherboard for not much, but is it worth spending money on such an old system?

Ok on the end I upgrade it to win 8.1 x64 but still I have same problem only 2.5gb I see. About buying new stuff , I need it for music&video production cuz of that I don't ask for a new pc , only if I can get cheap upgrade on this "old system".

Then you'd probably need a BIOS update to make it work properly with 8.1.
